- Medical history and physical examination, to include review of possible asbestos exposures
- X-Ray of chest and abdomen
- Pulmonary function testing
- CAT scan, provides cross-sectional pictures of the body
- MRI, a procedure in which radio waves and a powerful magnet linked to a computer are used to create detailed pictures of areas inside the body. These pictures can show the difference between normal and diseased tissue.
- Thorascopic biopsy (a small incision is made in the chest wall and tissue is obtained for testing)
- Positron emission tomography (PET scan), is good in detecting the spread of the cancer
